The Louisville metro remained under a winter weather advisory on Dec. 2 as the first heavy snowfall of the 2025-26 winter season was blowing through the area.

Residents in the Louisville metro area received 2 to 3 inches of snow overnight, according to reports shared by the National Weather Service. As of the morning of December 2, approximately 1.5 inches of snow had fallen for Lexington residents and 2 inches for Frankfort residents.

According to the bulletin, the main period of snowfall is expected to be from 11 pm on December 1 to 7 am on December 2, and road conditions are expected to be slippery this morning. “Unusually cold temperatures” are expected to persist for a week.

In January, Louisville received more than 10 inches of snow due to Winter Storm Blair. According to city officials, Louisville’s snow team is fully prepared with more than 200 staff, more than 32,000 tons of salt and more than 100 pieces of snow protection equipment to respond to any winter storm.

  • NWS Louisville Highview Office: 3.3 inches

  • Dawson Springs: 1.7 inches
