The PlayStation 4 post-apocalyptic video game Horizon Zero Dawn released in 2017 will reportedly be adapted into a Netflix series. Guerrilla Games’ protagonist Aloy and the Machines will reportedly debut on the streaming service. Sony and Netflix have yet to officially confirm plans to adapt the game into a television series. The show joins a list of PlayStation games that will debut as movies or series, including Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us, God of War, and Twisted Metal.
During an investor briefing on Tuesday, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra reportedly revealed that hit games Horizon Zero Dawn and Gran Turismo would both be getting adaptations, according to Variety. While Variety says both games will be adapted for TV, Deadline says Gran Turismo will be a separate film from the Horizon Zero Dawn series, with Neill Blomkamp (Elysium Nine) in talks to direct. Meanwhile, Sony has also reportedly confirmed that its upcoming God of War series will be coming to Amazon Prime Video.
Horizon Zero Dawn Review
Released in 2017 for the PS4, Horizon Zero Dawn is set in a post-apocalyptic world amidst the ruins of human civilization. The protagonist of the game, Aloy, is a hunter and one of the last surviving humans. She must fight the machines – bizarre mechanical creatures of unknown origin – while unraveling a conspiracy that threatens humanity and unraveling her past. There’s no word yet on whether the series adaptation will follow the 2017 game’s storyline. If Netflix is willing to give it multiple seasons, the Horizon Zero Dawn series could easily expand and cover the events of the 2022 game’s sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.

Horizon Zero Dawn is now the latest game to hit Hollywood. Back in March, Amazon Prime Video held advanced talks with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions to acquire a TV adaptation of God of War. This has now been confirmed. Meanwhile, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us is coming to HBO in 2023, starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman 1984) and Bella Ramsay (Game of Thrones, Hilda).
Sony also partnered with Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker, Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Stephanie Beatrice (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Psychedelic) and Neve Campbell ( Scream, Stranger Things) to develop a Twisted Metal franchise based on the game. Eventually, Ghost of Tsushima will be made into a movie with the director john wick.
Released earlier this year for the PlayStation and Naughty Dog series Uncharted, Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Cherry), Sofia Ali (Wild, Grey’s Anatomy) and Mark Waugh Alberg (The Fighter, The Departed) starring the same name.
