Hideo Kojima and Xbox head Phil Spencer announced the partnership between Xbox Game Studios and Kojima Productions during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 on Sunday. They’re teaming up to “create a whole new experience” unlike anything the studio has released before. The new Kojima game is currently shrouded in mystery, as the announcement was not accompanied by a title reveal or gameplay footage. All we know so far is that the game will utilize Microsoft’s cloud gaming technology.

Kojima is a highly regarded game designer who created and oversaw the Metal Gear series, considered by many to be the origin of the stealth game genre. He then left Konami to work with Sony on Death Stranding, which was released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive in 2019. It’s said to be the first game in the “strand game” genre, which makes use of various social elements. Now, this new partnership with Xbox promises to bring a new kind of game “never seen or played before.” It will leverage Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud technology.

No other information was shared during the 2022 Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. However, the follow-up event, the Xbox Games Showcase Extended, is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14. The event is expected to showcase new gameplay trailers and conversations with the game’s creators.
