As rumored and ardent fans feared, Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed again. Rockstar Games announced in the early hours of Friday that the release of GTA 6 has been delayed by six months to November 2026. The open-world crime game was originally scheduled to release on current-gen consoles on May 26, 2026; now, the highly anticipated game will launch on November 19, 2026.
In its statement, Rockstar apologized for GTA 6’s second delay, but said additional development time was needed to bring the game to the level of polish the studio expected.
“Grand Theft Auto VI will release on Thursday, November 19, 2026,” the studio said on its website. “We’re sorry for the extra time added to the long wait, but these extra months will allow us to complete the game with the level of polish you’ve come to expect and deserve.
“We would like to thank you again for your patience and support. Although the wait has been a little long, we are very excited about the player experience.”

What GTA 6 delays mean
Assuming there are no further delays, the second delay now extends the wait for GTA 6 by another six months. There is no doubt that “Grand Theft Auto 6” is the most anticipated game in the history of the media. Since the launch of “Grand Theft Auto 5” in 2013, players around the world have been waiting for this game for more than ten years. Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to break all industry records upon launch. In fact, the game is expected to be the biggest entertainment product ever.
Grand Theft Auto 6 was released in December 2023, and its first trailer set the internet abuzz. The first trailer, which has been viewed more than 268 million times on YouTube, promised the game would launch in 2025 but did not confirm a specific release date.
Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive confirmed in its financial report that GTA 6 is targeting a fall 2025 release. However, in early May this year, Rockstar postponed “GTA 6” to 2026 and confirmed the final release date: May 26, 2026. Days later, the studio released the record-breaking second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, showcasing the game’s secondary protagonist Jason and the world of Vice City. The trailer has been viewed more than 137 million times on YouTube.

Now, after a second delay to the game’s November 19, 2026 release, it might not be too far-fetched to expect Rockstar Games to release a new trailer, perhaps showing off GTA 6’s gameplay.
The second delay also serves as a wake-up call to the wider video game industry, potentially disrupting planned release windows for other publishers and developer games. GTA 6 is a meteor, and any game caught in its blast radius will be affected. The most immediate impact may be the second-biggest game launch of 2026: Marvel’s “The Wolverine.”
Insomniac Games and Sony released a new trailer for The Wolverine in September and confirmed a fall 2026 release date for the superhero action-adventure game. Now that GTA 6 is launching around the same time, Marvel’s Wolverine may be delayed until 2027 (it’s unlikely that the game’s release will be brought forward to 2026).
In a job announcement earlier this year, Rockstar Games said GTA 6 would be the “biggest game launch in history.” The wait for release was a little longer. Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on November 19, 2026.
