The post came after apparent opposition to the Stefanik provision in the National Defense Authorization Act, which requires federal investigators to alert Congress when launching counterintelligence investigations into presidential and federal candidates seeking public office, CNN reported.
Stefanik has been pushing for the rule for the past few years in response to the FBI’s investigation into the 2016 Trump presidential campaign and its alleged ties to Russia.
On Tuesday, Stefanik doubled down, saying Johnson was “preventing me from eradicating the illegal weaponization of regulations that led to events like Crossfire Hurricane, Arctic Frost, and more.” He stood by Jamie Raskin Republicans opposed to Trump blocked the provision to protect the deep state. “
She added: “This is a simple bill. This bill is DOA unless that provision is added when it passes out of committee.”
Johnson disputed Stefanik’s claims, issuing a statement saying, “None of this is false. I have absolutely no idea why Elise didn’t just call me. I texted her yesterday. I think she was upset that one of her provisions was not included in the National Defense Authorization Act.”
Johnson added: “I wrote to her and said, ‘What are you talking about?’ It didn’t get to my level yet.”
Stefanik, who announced her candidacy for New York governor last month, confirmed she had received a text message from Johnson and retorted: “The speaker just told more lies.”
“This is his go-to tactic for telling lawmakers when he’s caught undermining the Republican agenda,” she continued. “Didn’t you notice it? It’s the only provision in the bill that eradicates deep state corruption.”
