Google Meet is expanding the usability of breakout rooms and improving the feature. Now, customers with Google Workspace plans can use breakout rooms. The meeting host can set a timer for the group meeting, can assign dial-in participants to the meeting room, and the participants can request help. The breakout room feature allows the moderator to divide participants into several groups during a video call. The feature was launched last month but is limited to G Suite Enterprise for Education customers. Now, all eligible users can use it.
With the help of breakout rooms on Google Meet, educators with the G Suite Enterprise for Education program can divide students into several groups for simultaneous group discussions or working hours to increase participation. The moderator has the ability to monitor and participate in these discussions.
Google announced that users with Workspace Essentials, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard and Enterprise Plus plans will now also have breakout rooms, as well as G Suite Business and Enterprise for Education customers.
If needed, participants in the Google Meet breakout room can ask the host for help. The host can view the request from the host panel, or join the breakout room.
The meeting host can also set a timer for group meetings. Participants will be able to see the slogan to track how much time they have left, and will also remind you when there are 30 seconds left. When the time is up, participants will be prompted to return to the main Google Meet video call.
Now it is also possible to assign dial-in participants to the breakout room. Google also revealed that within two weeks, you can choose to add anonymous users to the breakout room.
A Google Meet call can create up to 100 breakout meeting rooms. Participants are randomly and evenly distributed in each room, but the meeting host can also manually move people to other rooms.
Clients with the following plans still cannot use the breakout room function: Workspace Business Starter, G Suite Basic, Education and Nonprofits.
