Google Maps Updated With Power Saving Mode; Know How to Use It on Your Pixel 10 Series Smartphone

Google Maps has been updated with a new battery saving mode, now available on Google Pixel 10 series smartphones. The feature was announced in the November Pixel Feature Drop and is now available to more users. The latest mode is designed to save battery and extend usage time when using Google Maps for navigation. In the new battery saver mode, Google Maps will display a black and white interface to limit battery usage. It also displays limited screen updates while showing basic navigation directions.

As part of its November feature rollout, Google has launched a new battery saver mode in Google Maps designed to extend battery life during navigation. Now, the feature appears to be rolling out more widely, with several users on the X having shared screenshots confirming that the feature is finally available on their Pixel 10 series phones.

With the new battery saver mode on Google Maps, the app switches to a black and white interface, reduces screen brightness and refresh rate, and limits updates to only important navigation instructions.

How to use power saving mode

Battery saving mode in Google Maps is currently exclusive to the Pixel 10 series. This means you can access it on the Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold. It only works in driving mode. Walking and cycling navigation is not currently supported.

Google Pixel 10 series users can check if the feature is available on their devices by heading to Google Maps > set up > navigationthen switch power saving mode below driving options.

Pressing the power button after navigation has started will activate a low-power map view on the lock screen. Tap the screen or press the power button again to exit. To return to this mode, press the power button again.

Battery saver mode displays only basic information, such as upcoming turns, and helps conserve battery by reducing screen brightness and color usage. Google claims that Battery Saver Mode can significantly extend battery life during longer drives compared to standard navigation.

Google’s new Google Maps battery saver mode only works when the phone is in vertical orientation. Once you reach your destination, it will automatically close and Google Maps will switch back to the full version.
