Gmail for Android can optionally apply search filters to help users find specific emails. The new feature will allow users to quickly and easily filter email search results on their mobile devices. The search filter should appear below the search box in the Gmail app. The filter can be a name or a specific time range. When searching emails by sender, users can select from a list of suggested senders or search for emails from multiple senders. In addition, the Internet giant has added new settings to the Google app on Android, control of options to personalize search results.

Through a blog post, Google announced the addition of an improved search function to Gmail for Android. Android device users can use this feature by clicking the search icon in the application search box. In order to speed up the search, Gmail will suggest search terms based on the information in the user’s Gmail account (such as contacts, labels, or mail). The result will include all messages except spam or messages in the trash bin.

The new features match the iOS-specific widget update Gmail received last year. The improved search function of Gmail for Android will be launched on Monday, September 20, and will be fully launched at the end of October. It can be used by all Google Workspace customers as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers.

In another development, the Android version of the Google app is receiving updates to control personalized results on search. It will allow users to disable or enable the “Personalized Search Results” option through the app, which allows them to control whether Google can use their account data to display personalized results. The features of this option include:

  • Automatically complete predictions, including search predictions based on search history.
  • Personal answers, such as location, reminders, and reservations.
  • Recommendations based on Google activities, such as what to watch, where to travel, where to eat, etc.
