Ghost of Yotei Sells 3.3 Million Copies in a Month, PS5 Sales Near 85 Million Units

Sony announced in its latest quarterly financial results that Soul of the Tomb Raider sold 3.3 million copies in its first month of release, calling the first-party game “a huge hit.” The action-adventure game launches exclusively on PS5 on October 2. The PlayStation parent company also reported that PS5 sales have exceeded 84.2 million units.

“The Soul of the Sheep’s Hoof” has sold 3.3 million copies

Sony announced its second-quarter fiscal 2025 earnings on Tuesday, confirming that “The Soul of the Rams” sold 3.3 million copies in 32 days. In comparison, the game’s predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima, sold 2.4 million copies in just three days of release. The cumulative sales of “Ghost of Tsushima” on PlayStation and PC are 13 million copies, so “Ghost of Yotei” still has a long way to go to catch up with the sales of its predecessor. During the earnings call, Sony said the game was “a huge hit” like its predecessor.

Sony also announced that it sold 3.9 million PS5 units in the second quarter of fiscal 2025, bringing the console’s total sales to more than 84.2 million units. PlayStation Network’s monthly active users reached 119 million during the quarter. PSN service and software sales helped Sony’s gaming business achieve 4% year-on-year growth in the second quarter of fiscal 2025.

The company announced that live streaming service games account for more than 40% of its first-party software revenue. This is mainly due to the release of Hellraiser 2 on Xbox Series S/X on August 26, 2025.

The game’s launch on Xbox has been “very smooth” for Sony. The company said the game “not only attracted new users on Xbox, but also saw increased engagement from existing users on PS5 and PC.” The launch of Xbox led to “significant” year-over-year sales growth for Helldiver 2, the company said.

“Soul of the Goat” was released on October 2 and is currently playable on PS5. A week after the game’s release, market research firm Alinea Analytics claimed it had sold 1.6 million copies and recouped a reported $60 million development budget just one day after release. According to the company, “Spider-Man” is Sony’s “strongest” first-party PS5 game since 2023’s “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.”
