ESPN predicts Chargers will sign 10-year veteran guard

The Chargers’ first priority this offseason will be revamping the offensive line, which gave up some pressures and sacks last season. Especially the interior portion of the offensive line needs to be addressed.

To address the issue, ESPN’s Kris Rhim predicts Los Angeles will “spend their free agent money” on Steelers linebacker Isaac Seumalo.

Seumalo, 33, is coming off a productive 10th season in the NFL. According to ESPN, his 97.3 percent pass-rush win rate ranked second among 65 qualifying backs, and his 76.9 percent run-block win rate ranked fourth.

Semalo is a perfect fit for offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel’s system as he has shown great ability not only in gap schemes, but also in zone schemes, where he has the athleticism to effectively get to blocks, seal backsides, and climb to the second level to engage linebackers.

Seumalo also brings valuable experience, including a Super Bowl title with the Eagles before joining Pittsburgh in 2023.

Left guard Zion Johnson will become a free agent, while right guard Mekhi Becton underperformed after being signed by the Chargers and could be a candidate to be eliminated. But Seumalo has proven to be effective in both areas.

Pro Football Focus projects Seumalo’s contract to be one-year and worth $8 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed.
