Donovan Mitchell scores 45, leading Cavaliers to 118-94 win over Magic

Donovan Mitchell was unstoppable, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 114-98 victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday night.

Mitchell scored 45 points on 15 of 25 shooting (including 5 of 8 three-pointers). Monday’s performance was his second straight game with 30-plus points against the Magic and his third straight game with 30-plus points.

Monday’s game started off as a tight affair, with Orlando outscoring Cleveland 32-22 in the first quarter. However, the Cavaliers responded 39-24 in the second quarter, with Mitchell finding his scoring touch and scoring 15 points.

Paolo Banchero scored twice in the opening minute of the third quarter as Orlando cut Cleveland’s lead to 61-60. But Mitchell responded with a seven-point burst to put the Cavaliers ahead. Javion Tyson scored 9 points in this quarter, helping the Cavaliers enter the fourth quarter with a 91-81 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Cleveland never went into a long scoring drought and the Magic couldn’t get within eight points as Tyrese Proctor and Evan Mobley set up Mitchell’s offense.

Banchero scored 35 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the Magic, almost tying Mitchell. Desmond Bane contributed 19 points and Anthony Blake contributed 15 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
