Details for Lou Holtz’s funeral at Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame has released details of Lou Holtz’s public funeral at Sacred Heart Cathedral. There will be a public visitation for the legendary Irish football coach on Sunday from 7:00 to 10:00.

The university is sharing an opportunity with the Notre Dame family, including the campus community, to honor legendary football coach Lou Holtz.

A public viewing will be held on Sunday, March 15th from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at the Sacré-Coeur Cathedral.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral on Monday, March 16, at 1:00 p.m. Seating in the cathedral is limited and will be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. At 8:00 a.m., a line will begin outside Sorin Hall for these seats.

Additional seating will be available in Washington Hall (where Holy Communion is served) and the Purcell Pavilion of the Joyce Center to view the live broadcast of the Mass. Gates to all three facilities will open at 11:30 am. Seating in Washington Hall and the Joyce Center Purcell Pavilion will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Following the Mass of Christian Burial, the public is welcome to gather along both sides of Notre Dame Avenue to honor Coach Holtz as his family leads the funeral procession from Notre Dame Circle to the main entrance of Cedar Grove Cemetery. Graveside services are private at the request of the Holtz family.
