Competitive swimming is one of the true combat sports.
“This can be an unforgiving sport, so it’s important to give yourself grace and grace throughout the process,” University of Pennsylvania swimmer Anna Moehn said.

At first glance, it might seem like the Penn State senior doesn’t have much to deal with. But don’t let the effortless hitting fool you, she’s earned her stripes.
“It’s easy to have those panicked moments, especially as a freshman. So being able to be a part of a team of such strong women who work so hard and are so talented in all aspects of life, not just in the pool, it’s really made me a more confident person,” Moen said.
She is in her final year at the University of Pennsylvania. She has set program records as a distance swimmer and also has the versatility to be a member of sprint relay teams. She also has a chance to become just the third swimmer in program history to compete at nationals three times.

“My attitude about competing at the national level was, you know, have fun competing. Mike always said, ‘You’re playing with the house’s money. So, go out and do your own thing.’ I think that’s what I really tried to do,” she said.
The lessons the Midwesterner learned in Philadelphia extend far beyond the pool.
“You guys chose Penn for very similar reasons because you love the game and you’re passionate about academics. I think my experience has gotten better and better over my four years at Penn,” Moen said.
