Five years after Death Stranding launched on PS4, Hideo Kojima’s post-apocalyptic action game is finally coming to Xbox. The Director’s Cut of “Death Stranding” quietly launched on Xbox Series S/X on Thursday. The Director’s Cut adds new gameplay features and missions to the game and was first released on PS5 in 2021 before coming to PC and mobile platforms.

Kojima Productions announced the game’s release on Xbox Series S/X on Thursday. The timing of the game’s launch on Microsoft platforms suggests that the game’s five-year console exclusivity period on PlayStation may end on November 7. “Xbox community members, please enjoy,” the studio said on X.
“Death Stranding, which debuted on PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019, today celebrates its fifth anniversary and has connected with more than 19 million players around the world,” Kojima Productions said in a statement. “With Death Stranding Director’s Cut now available for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC and Luna, we will continue to expand the Death Stranding IP in a variety of entertainment formats and connect with more players from around the world.”
Additionally, the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding is currently available on Xbox and PC at a 50% discount for a limited time.
The game’s Xbox page lists support for cloud saves, Xbox Achievements, and Xbox Play Anywhere functionality. The Director’s Cut also features high frame rate, photo mode, and ultrawide monitor support.
On the same day, Kojima Productions also announced that the game will be released on Amazon Luna. Subscribe to Amazon Luna+ to access the game on the cloud gaming platform.
Death Stranding Director’s Cut, published by 505 Games, was released on PS5 in 2021 and on PC a year later. The game was released earlier this year on iPhone 15 Pro, as well as iPad and MacBook models running Apple silicon.
Kojima Productions is currently working on the game’s sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which was revealed at the 2022 Game Awards. The game is expected to be released sometime in 2025. The sequel is confirmed to be released on PS5, but there is no official news about release on PC and Xbox. The cast of Death Stranding 2 will return from the first game, including Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker.
