Cyberpunk 2077 Sells 35 Million Copies, CD Project Red Shares Update on Cyberpunk 2 Development

Developer CD Projekt Red announced on Wednesday that “Cyberpunk 2077” has sold more than 35 million copies. The role-playing game hit a sales milestone in the third quarter of 2025, the publisher said in its latest financial report. CD Projekt also reported an increase in revenue in the third quarter of 2025 due to sales of Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion pack.

Cyberpunk 2077 reaches sales milestone

The Polish company reported sales revenue of PLN 349 million ($85.6 million, approximately Rs. 854.5 billion) in the third quarter of 2025, a year-on-year increase of 53%. CD Projekt said the increase in revenue was due to higher sales of Cyberpunk 2077 compared with last year and the Phantom Liberty expansion pack on existing platforms. The company said that the RPG game’s inclusion in the PS Plus game catalog in July 2025 and its release on new platforms (Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac devices) also helped.

“We are very happy and satisfied that Cyberpunk 2077 is still a game that is performing well and continues to attract new players despite the passage of time,” said Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt. “The game has sold more than 35 million copies, which is a testament to the enduring power of the series and allows us to plan even more boldly for its future.”

In early May this year, CD Projekt announced that Phantom Liberty sales had exceeded 10 million units when reporting first-quarter 2025 earnings. According to reports, “Cyberpunk 2077” also sold well during the Switch 2 launch week. According to NielsenIQ data, this RPG game was the best-selling third-party game during the launch of Switch 2, surpassing the sales of “The Witcher 3” on Switch 1.

“Cyberpunk 2077” sold more than 35 million copies in just five years after the game was released. The game, which was riddled with bugs and technical issues when it launched in 2020, has also seen a significant transformation in the years since launch. CD Projekt Red has since overhauled the open-world RPG with multiple updates.

“Cyberpunk 2” development update

The developer is also currently developing Cyberpunk 2 and The Witcher 4. The sequel to “Cyberpunk 2077” is currently in pre-production. During the latest earnings call, Nowakovsky also shared an update on the development of Cyberpunk 2.

He said more than 80 employees at CD Projekt Red’s Boston studio are developing the game. The company plans to hire more workers during the pre-production phase of the project. “As the project progresses, we plan to expand the Boston-based Cyberpunk team and double its size over the next two years,” Nowakovsky said.

However, the executive did not reveal the timetable for the next phase of “Cyberpunk 2” production.

“We are pleased with the progress the CP2 team has made to date, but it is certainly premature to talk about moving into any next phase of the project. Of course, we will make appropriate updates and announcements at that time,” Nowakovsky said in response to inquiries.
