Curran says England ready for ‘perfect game’ in semis vs India

Mumbai: England all-rounder Sam Curran insists his team is ready to play a “perfect game” against India in the semi-finals on Thursday.

It was at this venue last year that Abhishek Sharma scored 135 off 54 balls against England.

The left-hander has struggled at this World Cup but Curran hopes those heroics won’t be repeated. “I do hope Abhishek doesn’t knock the same door again,” Curran said on Tuesday. “We planned well and focused on Thursday night.”

England’s campaign has had its share of shaky moments – a four-wicket win over Nepal and a two-wicket win over Pakistan. But Curran believes the semifinals are the pinnacle stage.

“If there was ever a time to play our perfect game, it is now. In T20 cricket, all it takes is a few players hitting the ball with the bat and ball.”

Speaking of the atmosphere at the Wankhede Arena, he laughed and quipped: “It’s an iconic stadium. I’m sure it will be very quiet on Thursday night.”
