On April 3, Chicago Cubs pitcher Cade Horton threw two pitches to Cleveland’s Bo Naylor in the second inning. The second pitch was a 93.8 mph fastball. Horton immediately signaled to the dugout and withdrew from the game along with head coach Craig Counsell and an athletic trainer, his future suddenly uncertain.
Later that day, the Cubs announced Horton’s grim diagnosis: discomfort in his right forearm.

According to Marquee on-field reporter Tyler McGregor, Horton had tears in his eyes as he headed to the clubhouse — definitely not good news as Horton and the team hope to avoid the worst-case scenario.
Of course, the worst-case scenario is that Horton’s forearm discomfort requires season-ending surgery.
Traditional Tommy John surgery, which takes 12 to 18 months, could also cause Horton to miss most of the 2027 season.
