Cremonese coach Nicola not worried about Vardy’s breakfast: ‘A reference point’

Cremona coach Davide Nicola is delighted with Jamie Vardy’s adaptation and is not worried about the striker’s diet: “There is no longer a single menu that suits everyone.”

Vardy scored twice in Cremonese’s 3-1 win over Bologna on Monday, taking his tally to four in nine Serie A games.

“As a coach, all I can say is that great champions are very simple people. They already know what they have to do and how they have to do it. They never show a non-constructive attitude towards the team. What distinguishes a champion from an ordinary player is not only the immense quality he has on the pitch, but also the spirit and awareness he has of what he stands for. A true champion never gets his attitude wrong. He is very confident, relaxed and always training.

“He has his habits, but he comes here with the mentality to make himself available. I would also add that from this point of view the Cremona team, those who welcomed Vardy, have just as many qualities,” Nicola continued.

“A player like him has to understand his habits and integrate into them in the best possible way. The Cremona Group is very honored to welcome Vardy. Vardy has recognized this and has proven to be a great person in every aspect.”

A reporter asked Vardy if he could still have breakfast like he did in England, which included cheese, ham, omelet and beans.

“We now offer personalized breakfasts and lunches. There is no longer a one-size-fits-all menu,” Nicola replied.

“Cultures are different, needs are different, allergies are different. Every player has his own personal menu and these things don’t even need to be monitored because they are part of the player’s lifestyle.”
