Community rallies to help woman with kidney disease find living donor

Community members and local churches in Union County teamed up Saturday to assist a local mother in her search for a living kidney donor.

Cierra Threatt is currently battling stage 5 chronic kidney disease.

This effort is a continuation of support for Threatt. The Union County Crisis Assistance Center has provided financial assistance to her throughout her battle.

On Saturday, community resources and local churches worked together to coordinate a search for compatible donors. Threat and her parents urged the public to get medical tests, saying the results could help more than one person waiting for a transplant.

Threat said her main motivation for finding a donor was her family.

“I have a five-year-old daughter and I just want to be here to watch her grow up and live a healthy, fun life with her,” Threat said.

In addition to seeking a direct match, Threat recommends potential donors consider the National Kidney Registry’s kidney donation exchange program. The system allows a donor to offer a kidney to a recipient in exchange for a compatible organ from their own friend or family member.

Threatt emphasized that even if a donor is not matched to a specific person, their contribution will still have value in the medical registry.

“You may not be able to help the people you want to help, but you can help others and it will always work out,” she said.
