Clinton resident dies after being rescued from Lafayette Green apartment fire on Monday, chief says

CLINTON – A resident rescued from a burning apartment building on Lafayette Green in Clinton on Monday has died, the local fire marshal confirmed.

Clinton Fire Chief Brian Manware said the victim was transported by EMS from the scene to Yale New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

As of Tuesday, Manware had no further update on the fatal fire, other than to say it was still under investigation.

Manware said crews were dispatched to the fire around 10:25 a.m. and arrived on scene within about three minutes. Crews discovered a fire on the second floor of the building and extended a hose to a unit, he said.

The victim was located in a hallway of the building and was rescued by firefighters, Manwell said. The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries, Manwell said.

No other injuries were reported in the fire, but some residents were displaced and received assistance from the Red Cross, according to Manwell.
