Callisto Protocol just got an in-engine trailer ahead of its December 2 release. New footage from developer Striking Distance Studios focuses on thematic and story aspects, in addition to introducing a new character played by Karen Fukuhara – mostly known for her role in the Prime Video series The Boys. Patches for at least a year will support the title, with DLC investments planned at a later date. Callisto Protocol is released on all major platforms – PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X and Xbox One.

From the creators of Dead Space, the trailer for Protocol Callisto is based on the survival horror game as you embark on a deadly journey through the sewage system of interstellar space. Set in 2320, Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto, players take on the role of Jacob Lee (Josh Duhamel), the victim of fate thrown into the high-security dark iron prison . Mysterious events turn prisoners into terrifying zombie-like creatures, and Jacob is tasked with fighting him along the way to uncover a conspiracy.

The aptly titled “The Dark Iron Truth” trailer for the Callisto Protocol hints at treason — the alien parasite that allegedly caused the tentacles to break into the prison and ensure bloodshed. “It’s like someone’s trying to cover up what’s going on here,” Jacob told Ai Fukuhara’s character while we’re taking notes on death row. The implication is that the arrival of aliens caused living colonies to evacuate the moon, leaving prisoners in cramped cells—essentially a wasteland. The trailer briefly outlines its evolution/ process, where the parasite bites into and takes over the host’s body, taking on a hostile form.

In addition to guns, players are equipped with a variety of melee weapons and telepathy, allowing you to grab enemies from a distance and throw them into sharp razors and heavy doors. Like Dead Space, the Callisto Protocol relies heavily on dismemberment, letting you rip apart limbs and raise the ESRB rating to a mature 17+. In addition to AMD’s FSR 2.0 (Fidelity Super Resolution), the game will offer ray tracing support, which uses a temporal upscaling solution to boost frame rates.

Callisto Protocol releases on December 2 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-orders are now available on all platforms except the Epic Games Store.
