Bill O’Reilly says there’s a reason Democrats in Washington are stalling on the latest federal spending bill, and it’s based on a misleading statistic.
The latest continuing resolution is set to expire at midnight on Friday, and if that date passes without a deal, the government will have to shut down again.
“You know, we do it every two months, right?” O’Reilly said on Friday’s “No Spin News.” “But here’s why they’re stalling: because Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries really want to destroy DHS and ICE in a specific way. They want to suppress it so that DHS will have a harder time controlling undocumented immigrants who are already in this country… Well, let me prove it to you.”
O’Reilly noted that Schumer and Jeffries wanted to impose a number of conditions on ICE enforcement before agreeing to continue funding the operation, including no masks for officers; no enforcement of judicial warrants for detainees near hospitals, schools or churches; and agent body cameras.
He also noted that California has already ruled against masks — “a federal judge said ICE agents can wear masks” — that it’s impossible to issue judicial warrants for “15 million illegal immigrants” and that no-go areas “mean you can’t do any enforcement in a city.”
As for body cameras, “that’s a little nebulous – any action against immigrants has to be shared with local authorities, which of course gives authorities the opportunity to report it to immigration or related groups, which of course they will do in radical left-wing states.”
All in all, O’Reilly said: “It’s not going to happen.”
“So the logical conclusion about all of these demands is that Democrats don’t want any enforcement,” O’Reilly concluded. “They just don’t do it. They want amnesty. But that’s been the Democratic position for decades — amnesty. Anyone who’s not a criminal should be allowed to stay. But now it’s ‘violent criminals.'” That’s a big lie. Are you ready for the big lie? Coming. “
O’Reilly noted that a talking point among Democrats is that only 14 percent of immigrants detained by ICE are violent criminals, and then played video examples of agents deploying ICE, including radio host Leslie Marshall.
“This is misleading in the extreme,” O’Reilly said. “I don’t know if Leslie Marshall knew this, but she certainly didn’t do her research. Now, this 14 percent number comes from a CBS News report, which is completely wrong. Why? Well, here are some nonviolent crimes that are not part of the 14 percent: drug and drug trafficking, DUI, all theft crimes, all fraud crimes. Additionally, child pornography, child endangerment, and child trafficking are not considered violent crimes.”
O’Reilly said this means immigrant gangs controlling drug trafficking operations will not be detained by ICE.
“Not violent. No,” he said. “Do you understand what fraud is? Do you understand what the big lie is? When people hear this, they’re like, ‘Oh, ICE only rounds up poor farmers and poor hotel workers. Only 14 percent are violent criminals.’ What a lie.”
O’Reilly said the federal government’s own statistics show that 60 percent of undocumented people detained by the Department of Homeland Security have committed some kind of criminal offense.
“That may be true,” he added. “Now, a criminal offense could be failure to show up for a hearing. It could be any number of things. But if you’re here illegally – you sneak in or overstay – and you commit any crime, any crime, just get out of here. Right? Well. That’s what we’re dealing with here – massive deception. And then the media finds out and runs.”
