Director James Cameron revealed that “Avatar 2” has been completed and “Avatar 3” has been filmed. Cameron said in a video conference chat with Arnold Schwarzenegger at the 2020 Austrian World Summit last week that the live-action work of “Avatar 2” is “100% complete” and that “Avatar 3” is “95% complete”. It has survived in New Zealand since June. This is the first survivor since the island nation successfully combated COVID-19.
“Well, COVID hit us, just like it hit everyone.” Cameron told Schwarzenegger when asked to update the production of the “Avatar” sequel. “We lost about four and a half months of production time. Therefore, we will release a full year to December 2022. This has already been announced.”
In late July, Disney announced that it would postpone all four “Avatar” sequels. “Avatar 2” is now scheduled to be released on December 16, 2022, followed by “Avatar 3” on December 20, 2024, “Avatar 4” on December 18, 2026, “Avatar 5” in 2028 Released on December 22.
This is the complete conversation between Cameron and Schwarzenegger. The Avatar discussion starts at about 9:30 minutes.
“Now, this doesn’t mean I have extra time to finish this movie, because the day we deliver “Avatar 2”, we will start making “Avatar 3″,” Cameron added. “So where we are now, I am shooting in New Zealand, and we are shooting the rest of the reality shows. We have about 10% of the remaining space. “Avatar 2” is 100% complete, “Avatar 3” is 95% complete .
“We are lucky because we chose it as a production base a few years ago. We produced the first movie in New Zealand and it turned out to be one of them. Its COVID response is ranked first or second in the world.
Cameron and fellow Avatar producer Jon Landau returned to New Zealand in June after the government had controlled the virus and resumed film production under a special plan that protected the crew from Go beyond the borders of New Zealand.
“We can operate,” Cameron said. “We are able to shoot and have a more or less normal life here. We are very lucky, so I don’t see any obstacles to complete the picture and complete the two pictures.”
After the outbreak in Auckland, the most populous city, another COVID panic occurred in New Zealand in August, which brought new restrictions to the country, but the restrictions have since been relaxed, except for Auckland itself.
As for the content of “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3”, Cameron will not disclose any details: “I can’t tell you this story. I can’t give you any big news. You are always welcome to visit as an individual, and I will show you Everything. But in terms of what I can post, I believe in its mystery and excellent display ability.”
“Avatar 2” will be released in theaters on December 16, 2022, and “Avatar 3” will be released on December 20, 2024.
