With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy just days away from its presentation, Australian and Indian cricketers were sweating the net as they prepared for the most important task. While India are the “favorites” to win the title series due to “home field advantage”, the absence of players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Ajinkya Rahane does worry some. When Cheteshwar Pujara was asked the same question, the veteran batsman said everyone has to be at the top of the game, be it individually or as a team.
In an interview with The Times of India, Pujara was asked how his role would change considering the trio of Rahan, Bangla and Pant were not in the series.
The veteran batsman responded: “India vs Australia is always a big series. You have to be at the top of the game, not just as a player but as a team. Everyone is looking forward to playing against Australia. Great results in the race and they’re especially a great test team. So, I think it’s a big challenge and something I’m looking forward to. There’s been a huge rivalry between us for a while. There’s been some great It’s a test between us, and that’s something we’re all looking forward to seeing in the upcoming series.”
Pujara was also asked about his battles with the likes of Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins. The India star said it was their “experience” that made it difficult for them to face the bowlers.
“Look, they have experience. They know their strengths very well. Especially when we played against them in Australia, they took advantage of the conditions very well. They knew what areas to play in those conditions. So I think with them The main fight is always in Australia. Don’t forget they are great bowlers and they do well even in India but my big fight against them is in Australia. It’s something you need to prepare a lot for as As a batsman, you need to figure out how to deal with them. As a batsman, you always like a challenge,” he said.
