Amazon on Tuesday announced the launch of a domestic canine robot called Astro, and reached an agreement with Walt Disney to apply its voice control technology to resort hotels in an effort to make its virtual assistant Alexa a important part of consumers’ lives.

Home robots are designed to take on tasks such as home monitoring, setting routines, and reminders, and can play music and TV programs while scrolling around the house. The device has digital eyes on a rotating screen mounted on wheels. The introductory invitation price is US$999.99 (approximately Rs 74,190), and the regular price is US$1,449.99 (approximately Rs 107,000).

Other products in its latest product lineup include smart thermostat, smart display Echo Show 15 and a new health tracking bracelet called Halo View.

Echo Show 15 can be installed on the wall and is equipped with AZ2 Neural Edge, a processor that helps users personalize the screen.

In order to attract the next generation of customers (children), the company launched Amazon Glow, a gadget for playing games, reading or drawing during video calls.

In cooperation with Disney, it will launch an Alexa-based voice assistant in Disney’s theme park hotels, as well as a paid feature that allows customers to interact with Disney characters at home.

The feature is expected to be launched next year and will allow users to interact with Disney characters through “Hey, Disney!” voice control.

Amazon launches many new products year, including sunglasses with voice control and home drones. These products have not yet become big sellers.

Devices account for a small portion of Amazon’s total sales.
