The brand announced through its social media channels that Poco is becoming an independent brand globally. This new initiative was carried out 10 months after its Indian subsidiary separated from Xiaomi and became an independent brand. The Chinese giant launched Poco as its sub-brand in 2018. Due to the success of Poco F1 making its debut as the Poco brand’s first mobile phone, the brand initially gained popularity among young smartphone customers. However, in the recent past, the phones it brought were mainly relabeled with some existing Redmi models.
In order to announce the global separation from Xiaomi, the Poco Global Twitter account posted this note: “Poco Global is ushering in a new era as an independent brand. With the support of the global community, this milestone will become possible. Since the Poco F1 was first launched in 2018, this has helped us achieve many notable achievements.”
Poco said that since its launch, it has entered more than 35 global markets and sold more than 6 million mobile phones worldwide. Poco F1 also reached the milestone of more than 2.2 million vehicles worldwide. However, the brand did not disclose the market performance of its other mobile phone models, including Poco C3, Poco F2 Pro, Poco M2, Poco M2 Pro, Poco X2, Poco X3 and Poco X3 NFC.
When Poco became an independent brand, Poco did not provide any details as to whether the after-sales service of its mobile phones will change. In addition, the brand seems to be still using Xiaomi’s MIUI to customize the appearance on the Android OS of its phones.
Back in January, Xiaomi announced that Poco India was becoming an independent brand. However, the brand still uses Xiaomi’s service center infrastructure and MIUI appearance.
The move towards independence is mainly to cater to BBK Electronics, which caters to a large part of the global smartphone market with different models under the Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Realme and iQoo brands.
In addition to becoming independent in the global market, Poco also introduced Poco M3 as its latest smartphone model. The phone is equipped with triple rear cameras and includes an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC. Poco M3 will soon enter the global market with a starting price of US$149 (about 11,000 rupees).
