12 may not 5G in SIM mode out of the box. The so-called difference was first highlighted on Reddit over the weekend, and since then, internal training documents posted by in the discussion seem to have confirmed the problem. Apple launched the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max in 2018, and for the first time introduced dual SIM card functionality in its iPhone. The latest iPhone 12 models (iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Max) were launched on October 14. The product will provide dual SIM support-physical Nano-SIM and eSIM-and 5G support.

“When using two lines in dual-SIM mode, either line does not support 5G data and will fall back to 4G LTE. If customers only use eSIM and adopt a 5G-enabled carrier and service plan, they will have 5G Access rights. This means that users will have to disable 5G on the physical SIM or eSim to get 5G speeds on new phones.

Mac Rumors first spotted the discussion and wrote that it had independently confirmed the authenticity of the document.

In a subsequent response to the original Reddit post, another user who claimed to have accessed the Verizon training document stated that the iPhone 12 dual-SIM 5G support issue will be resolved through a software update later this year. It is not clear whether all iPhone 12 models will be shipped undamaged. Apple has not yet commented on this issue or its fix.
