Tata Motors on Wednesday announced a partnership with Dolby Laboratories in a move that will expand in-car entertainment solutions on Harrier.ev. Dolby Atmos is coming soon, allowing consumers to experience spatial audio technology in electric vehicles (EVs). It will complement the Tata Harrier.ev equipped Harman JBL Black audio system, which is powered by an 8-channel amplifier and is offered as a premium in-car entertainment solution.
Harrier.ev launches Dolby Atmos
Tata Motors announced in a press conference that Dolby Atmos will enable a multi-dimensional audio experience on Harrier.ev. It will be compatible with apps such as Audible and Gaana, available through the Arcade.ev app store and integrated into the built-in infotainment system.
Dolby Atmos technology takes advantage of fixed speaker positions and seating arrangements in the EV to ensure that every instrument and note is experienced accurately. Tata Motors says it delivers “studio-quality sound”. It is said to provide better audio quality when listening to music, podcasts, and more.
Tata Motors has equipped Harrier.ev with a Harman JBL Black sound system. It includes four 6.5-inch speakers and four tweeters in the front and rear doors, a center speaker in the dashboard, two high-fidelity mid-range speaker units and a subwoofer that produces bass in the EV trunk, completing the 10-speaker setup.
The audio system on Harrier.ev is powered by an 8-channel amplifier. The vehicle also features JBL Audio Mode, which enables drivers to tailor the listening experience to their preferences.
However, Tata Motors is not the first Indian car company to introduce Dolby Atmos into its electric vehicles. In December 2024, Mahindra and Mahindra also announced a partnership with Dolby Laboratories to integrate the Dolby Atmos experience onto its range of electric SUVs, including the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e.
Harrier.ev was launched in India last month with prices in India starting from Rs. The Adventure 65 model is priced at Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes with a 65kWh battery pack and a 3.3kW portable charging cable.
