🎧 ‘Pompey need bodies in the box’

Former Portsmouth defender Nathan Thompson has been reflecting on Pompey’s attacking problems during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Hull City and believes the problem lies with positioning.

“When you see the ball go wide, the only person in the box – oftentimes it’s just Colby. [Bishop] “Thompson told BBC Radio Solent. “As a defender, if you only have one person to worry about, it becomes very easy to mark.

“When you get out wide you need bodies in the box and that didn’t happen on Saturday.”

The defeat means Portsmouth remains a nerve-wracking five points clear of the relegation zone.

However, Thompson isn’t worried about the team’s survival potential.

“The manager will be disappointed from Saturday but ultimately he will say, ‘We can work together here and this will give us a real chance’,” he said.

“Getting back-to-back wins two weeks ago gives them a really good opportunity in a lot of ways.”
